Macedonia: Ethnic Tensions in Court and Streets In 2013, Macedonia saw ethnic tensions simmer amid a mass murder trial, street riots and a hero’s homecoming for a convicted war criminal freed by the Hague Tribunal. January saw the start of a high-profile murder trial in which six men are facing charges of terrorism, suspected of having committed the gruesome murders of five people near Skopje in April 2012. The prosecution in the ongoing case, locally known as ‘Monster’, charges six ethnic Albanians of murdering five ethnic Macedonians near Skopje in an attempt to provoke ethnic tensions in the country. 'Turkish Language Day' celebrated in North Macedonia Since 1993, December 21st has been observed as Turkish Language Day in North Macedonia, marking the inception of the first Turkish education in Skopje 78 years ago. This festival holds immense significance for fostering Turkish unity and stands as a day of tremendous enthusiasm for the Macedonian Turkish community. Constituting approximately four percent of North Macedonia's population, the Turkish community's celebration of Turkish Language Day underscores their cultural identity. Notably, North Macedonia, a former region under Ottoman rule, gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and received international recognition in 1993. Among the six official languages in the country, Turkish holds a distinguished place.  Be Volunteer Against Hate! 36 participants from 4 various countries have come together to volunteer against hate and discrimination. This KA152-YOU project, funded by the EU and the Turkish National Agency, encourages its youth participants to combat racism, violence, and every kind of discrimination. With the help of energizers and interactive events and activities related to volunteering against hate, participants had a chance to exchange their ideas and cultural aspects. Moreover, they had a chance to raise awareness. These people salute their readers and spread peace all around the world.
